Halstead U.S.D. 440

Bentley Primary School

Realizing they needed the classroom space, yet committed to creating a storm shelter capable of withstanding a tornado, the residents of Bentley wisely chose a multi-purpose venue for their shelter. Completed in 2006, this Bentley Primary classroom can shelter over 230 people from the fiercest of natures’ storms, yet function as an everyday classroom with restrooms, doors and windows.

Halstead Middle School

Halstead Middle School will soon be sporting many new additions and upgrades that include a new 300 seat practice gym, new locker rooms, a new band room, and 6 new classrooms. The band room solves overcrowding while doubling as a tornado safer room, and the science classroom and main entrance will be relocated to new space. The new science classroom will also solve size as well as equipment problems, and the new ADA compliant gym will resolve scheduling issues, allowing students to get home earlier in the evening.

There will be a new HVAC system, a cafeteria addition with solarium, and the administration offices will undergo a complete renovation. For overall enhancement, there will be all new windows in the existing building as well as all new wiring for new technology throughout the entire school. With the new bus drop off and visitor parking in front, both parents and students have safer, more efficient access to the school.

Halstead High School

Halstead High School’s new 500 seat practice gym includes upgraded public facilities, and enough locker rooms for normal activities as well as competitive sporting events both indoor and outdoor. As with the middle school, the new ADA compliant gym will resolve scheduling issues, allowing students to get home earlier in the evening. Renovations include the chemistry lab and the existing girl’s locker rooms making them more accessible.

Convenience is a hallmark of the new design, as the new district office and board room will be connected to the school. The new multi-purpose / wrestling room will double as a tornado safer room, and other activities will be conveniently on site so that travel downtown for certain events will no longer be necessary. To further enhance user friendliness, the new additions and renovations will have all new wiring for new technology, and there will be a new intercom and phone system throughout the entire school
